2.3: Styling the site using CSS
When your HTML grid has been set up and configured using layout blocks all the remaining styling and design is done using three complementary parts of the 23 Video design engine:
- CSS (or Cascading Styleheets) lets you style any element on any page by setting position, colors, fonts, border, padding and much more.
- Files is where you upload ressource files needed for your design. These will usually be small graphics files such as logos or backgrounds, but you can upload any file type including ZIPs, PDFs and stand-alone CSS files.
- JavaScript is a way to write code modifying you page. Using DOM manipulation you can even modify the HTML grid or build new items into your grid. We do not limit your use of JavaScript and frameworks in any way.
Styling 23 Video with CSS
Cascading Style Sheets is an integral part of all development for the web used for tranforming the markup in HTML into well designed websites. If you want to learn more about CSS, w3school's guide and Mozilla's reference are two good places to start.
When you want to set up your own design for 23 Video, you will be using CSS to change the look and formatting of the overall grid of pages.
The CSS editor in 23 Video is available through Design → CSS to site administrators.
The editor itself is designed to be simple to use for rapidly building and testing a new design:
- It's a simple input area where any part of the stylesheet is displayed.
- The input area featured code highlighting for easy readability.
- CSS can be saved using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+S.
- The stylesheet is put online immediately after the CSS has been saved.
